Strawberry Orange Margarita



It’s almost Cinco de Mayo, strawberries are everywhere, it’s over 90 degrees outside… yes, it’s definitely time for strawberry margaritas. This year, I’ve been on a bit of a muddled drink kick. And who can blame me? You get to eat alcohol-infused fruit at the end of your drink. It’s kind of like dessert, with a kick.

First, you need to make margarita mix. It’s simple. Boil equal parts sugar and water for 8 minutes to make simple syrup, then cool. Add equal parts lemon juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Boil THAT for 3 minutes, and cool again. You’re done.

Now mix this homemade margarita mix in a shaker with ice, orange juice, tequila, and a splash of sprite.



Shake to chill, and strain just enough into a glass to cover two sliced strawberries (if you pour all of the liquid in, it gets hard to muddle, since strawberries float easily), and crush with a muddler or any other blunt instrument at hand.



Top with the remaining margarita from the shaker, garnish, and you’re done.




Strawberry Orange Margarita

Note: Homemade Margarita Mix recipe: Boil together 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar, stirring frequently, for 8 minutes. Cool, then mix in 1/2 cup lime juice and 1/2 cup lemon juice. Boil for 3 minutes and cool.

  • 2 oz . homemade margarita mix
  • 2 oz . tequila
  • 1/2 oz . fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 oz . sprite
  • ice
  • 2 sliced strawberries top removed


  1. Shake margarita mix, tequila, orange juice, and sprite with ice to chill.
  2. Place sliced strawberries in a glass, and strain about 1/2 of the margarita into the glass, just enough to cover the strawberries.
  3. Muddle the strawberries to release their juices.
  4. Pour in the rest of the margarita mix, and give a quick stir.
